25 Website Improvement Ideas
This post aims to give you some ideas to improving a website. Not all the points listed below will be suitable for all sites, but you may be inspired to create new sections or develop new features which will help improve the site from an SEO, usability or usefullness point of view.
Here are 25 great ideas for improving a website:
- Remove Flash if it is used for navigation or content
- Increase landing pages – 1 per keyphrase/product
- Add Google map to location page
- Add company to Google Local and display in location map – add photos and description to local details
- Add videos of company’s work (products, showreel etc.)
- Add call to action on every landing page (online contact form, telephone number etc.)
- Make sure PPC landing pages are targeted towards the PPC keywords that point to them
- Add information relating to site, but not already covered (e.g. if a B&B, add local tourist information etc.)
- Create a News section which is regularly updated
- Create a company blog to keep public and customers up-to-date on company
- Create an RSS feed if site is regularly updated – track with FeedBurner
- Some companies could add photos to Flickr and create RSS feed from photos
- Flickr photos with geodata tagging appear in Google Maps

- Archive old products/events if suitable to increase page count of site
- User generated content – allow customers to add reviews, comments, images, videos to site if relevant
- If company is offering a service rather than a product, create a contact form on a Prices page with text saying the service is bespoke to each client, fill out the quick form for a quote
- Ask all clients of company to create link to company’s site from their own, possibly for a discount/free prize
- Add breadcrumbs for navigation
- Add spam captchas to contact forms to reduce spam
- Target PPC campaigns to certain regions and times if appropriate
- Add site search box
- FAQs
- Install a click-tracking program such as ClickDensity to see where users click and use the data to improve site usability and conversion rates
- Install a feedback program such as Kampyle to monitor user experiences of the site. Again use this feedback to improve usability and service for the customers
