Why we chose WordPress
For SEO Tutorials, we wanted to use a simple content management system that could use both features of blogs, and appear as a ‘normal’ site. We wanted to be able to set the site up quite quickly and not have to become experts at coding, which we aren’t! For this reason, we decided to not choose Drupal, as although this does seem to be one of the most popular and powerful website content management systems available, it is also widely regarded as being difficult to learn from scratch, especially for those with no prior knowledge of blogs or CMS software.
After talking to friends, we decided to try WordPress. It is not as powerful as Drupal, but it makes up for it with ease of use and a wide variety of plugins available, meaning it can handle most scenarios quite well. It is also very easy to manipulate, meaning changing styles, layout, linking structure is very easy.
WordPress is also a good choice with regards to designing websites for search engines, as it can handle URL rewriting, produces clean code and is gzip enabled. Other advantages/disadvantages of WordPress are discussed in other posts in this blog.
